What We Do
Nurse practitioners (NPs) offer many of the same services as physicians, but their training differs. Doctors have attended medical school, and hold either an MD or an OD degree. Nurse practitioners have a master’s degree or a Ph.D. (completed after nursing school) and have advanced clinical training in a specialty area of practice.
As advanced practice, board-certified clinicians, nurse practitioners are trained in the comprehensive assessment of patients, and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic illness.
Members of our nurse practitioner team hold national certification in areas including cardiology, electrophysiology, dermatology, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine and palliative medicine.
Services We Provide
Our nurse practitioners are expert healthcare providers who work both independently and in collaboration with physicians, depending on their areas of specialization. They prescribe medication and treatment, and can provide a wide range of services, including: Comprehensive physical exams.
- Ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests
- Screening for numerous health conditions
- Counseling on disease prevention
- Management of acute and chronic illness
Other clinical activities will vary, depending upon the specialty in which the nurse practitioner is working.
Why We Are Different
Our nurse practitioners are an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team at WESTMED. They have a high level of clinical expertise, and bring a unique perspective to care by focusing on the whole person, emphasizing health education, counseling and disease prevention.
