What We Do

We are dedicated to the wellness of the whole woman. We treat not only breast cancer, but also benign breast diseases, including breast pain.

We also offer a tailored surveillance program for high-risk patients. This can include patients who have family members with breast cancer, or patients who have undergone biopsies and have diagnoses of atypical breast findings that are not cancer.

Our comprehensive team of doctors is here to help answer all questions regarding breast cancer and treatment and to provide personalized, compassionate care to ensure the best possible results. We work very hard to enable our patients move through the pathway of care as seamlessly and comfortably as possible. Our goal is to be available to see patients within 48 hours or less when a consultation appointment is needed.

Why We Are Different

Every patient is an individual with her/his needs, so we aim to be responsive to those needs. If the patient wants to move quickly through a series of tests, we do our best to accommodate that preference. We also recognize that some patients need more time to consider the information we have provided and to gather other opinions and support.

The WESTMED Comprehensive Breast Center, serving individuals in Westchester County and Fairfield County, has received full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). This program, administered by the American College of Surgeons, is awarded only to those centers that have met the program’s criteria in all clinical areas involved in treating patients with diseases of the breast. To become accredited, breast centers must be voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and must successfully complete a stringent performance review. The NAPBC designation indicates that WESTMED is practicing state-of-the-art compassionate care.

Taking care of patients with breast cancer and breast diseases requires a team approach. Our physicians from a variety of specialties work together to ensure seamless, convenient care.

Our breast care team brings together board-certified breast surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, plastic surgeons and radiation oncologists.

Sunday Mammography

Sunday Mammography 2017

WESTMED will advance the standard of patient convenience by becoming the first practice in Westchester County to offer mammography seven days a week.   Starting on Sunday, February 12, 2017, WESTMED will perform screening mammograms  for walk-ins and women with prescriptions  on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Ridge Hill (73 Market Street) location in Yonkers.  The day is being added for the convenience of women who have an incredibly busy workweek.

A leading multi-specialty practice, WESTMED will perform mammograms for women on Sundays at Ridge Hill whether or not they have been seen by WESTMED physicians or used WESTMED facilities in the past--and even if they do not have a primary physician.

WESTMED already offers mammograms on Saturdays at its Rye location at 1 Theall Road and its White Plains location at 210 Westchester Avenue. Weekday screenings are held in Rye, White Plains, Purchase and Yonkers.

“Research shows that annual mammograms can help detect breast cancers early, when they are most curable, and when it is possible to use breast-conserving therapies,” said  Dr. Rand Stack,   a diagnostic radiologist at WESTMED.  Screening mammography is noninvasive imaging that uses a low-dose X-ray to visualize the breast tissue. Radiologists examine the mammogram to detect and diagnose breast diseases.  Mammography is important, because it is capable of detecting breast cancer at an earlier stage than by any other technique.

The NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) recommends that all women get a mammogram every year beginning at age 40.

Patients who have mammograms on the weekend will receive timely results by mail. Patients who choose to come to WESTMED for a mammogram during weekday business hours have the additional option of receiving their results immediately, before they leave the facility.

“In addition to screening mammography, we have a truly amazing team at WESTMED’s Comprehensive Breast Center that encompasses all of breast health care,” said  Dr. Adora Fou, WESTMED breast surgeon.  “We are an NAPBC accredited breast center with radiologists, breast surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, pathologists and advanced practice providers who provide an unsurpassed environment of healing and support.” To become accredited by the  NAPBC   (National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers), a breast center must achieve the highest standards of care.
