Zika Virus Outbreak Declared Public Health Emergency by WHO

4324324234 The World Health Organization has declared the rise in birth defects linked to the spreading Zika virus a public health emergency. The WHO director-general, Margaret Chan, says, "As a precautionary measure, a coordinated international response is needed."  This will pave the way for intensive mosquito control efforts and will expedite the development of a more rigorous diagnostic test and a preventive vaccine.
